The beginning of Fall always reminds me of festive activities involving good food, family gatherings and breathtaking scenery provided by mother nature. On the downside, the sudden chilly weather also reminds me what it’s like to have dry, itchy skin, particularly on my hands and face. I, like over 15 million other people, suffer from eczema and even though it’s a mild case, my hands always get the brunt of it. The dryer they get, the more I itch. Scratching them to ease the itchiness only leads to burning and discomfort. I’ve tried many over-the-counter lotions and creams, which all help for a few minutes, but the minute I take my gloves off or wash my hands, my knuckles seem to itch again. When it’s frosty outside, sometimes the last thing you feel like drinking is a big glass of water. But getting plenty of water during the wintertime is just as important as it is during warm weather. Dehydrated skin is more likely to feel tight and dry.
Try to get the recommended eight (eight ounce) glasses of water each day, to help keep your skin hydrated. When water doesn’t sound appealing, try warm decaffeinated tea instead!
