cmarchuska is a NYC based clothing line that was first launched in November 2008. The line consists of chic and sophisticated pieces composed of eco-friendly fabrics and easy-to-wear feminine designs. Recently, cmarchuska appeared in their first ever fashion show during none other than Earth Week at NYC’s Ultra. Enjoy this video for a peek at their successful show and then read on to see how my Q&A with Christine, the “C” in cmarchuska, went. cmarchuska – Q&A with P&P
P&P – What sets cmarchuska apart from other eco-friendly clothing lines?
cmarchuska – The focus on chic and sophisticated pieces that can be worn for work or play. Most eco lines only offer casual pieces or RTW – my line specifically focuses on the need for chic yet classic versatile wear.
P&P - Can you explain to our readers exactly what the term “sustainable fabric” means?
cmarchuska – Sustainable can mean a lot of different things, but ultimately it means these fabrics are made with the least wasteful methods and processes. Thus, helping sustain our environment and world.
P&P - When you first decided to get into the fashion business, did you know immediately that you wanted to work with eco-conscious materials?
cmarchuska – Yes I knew that if I was going to start my own line I wanted to make sure I was addressing all of the issues that are important to me such as eco-conscious fabrics.
P&P – Your clothing line seems to have grown pretty quickly in comparison to some designers that have been trying to get in the game for years. Do you feel that being a “green” company has played a role in your success?
cmarchuska – I think that green is a growing focus and being green is definitely an advantage in growing a business these days, but ultimately I think my success is derived from my hard work and the talented hard work of the people helping me develop and grow cmarchuska.
P&P – Speaking of success, congratulations on your first fashion show this past April! I noticed that the lovely Lindsey Leigh dress was featured on the runway and in your ‘09 lookbook. When will we see that piece and the rest of the new collection available online?
cmarchuska – Thank you so much! Several of the new pieces from the look book are now available online and in stores and I will continue to add production of new styles with demand from my customers.
P&P - Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
cmarchuska – I find inspiration in the fabulous women in my life who have amazing fashion sense and style.
P&P - Do you have a personal favorites from the cmarchuska collection?
cmarchuska – My personal favorite is the chrissy jean dress in red fuscia – I think it is perfect for the upcoming holiday season.
P&P - What are your plans for the future? Any new ideas brewing for 2010? I’d love to see more accessories like the Hunter scarf.
cmarchuska – I recently took on an extremely talented designer, Mignonne Gavigan, who is helping me with SS10. We have 9 new amazing pieces that we will be debuting at the beginning of October ’09. I cannot give out too much info yet, but we will be using fabrics that we have never worked with before and will have some modern cutting edge pieces that I think will really place cmarchuska on the fashion radar
P&P - I know you must have had some really great business advice growing up, being that you come from such an entrepreneurial family. Any tips you can share with our readers?
cmarchuska - It really comes down to hard work and perseverance. Starting your own business is never easy and you will be married to it for several years so you have to be ready to dedicate a lot of time and effort.
P&P - Thank you so much for taking the time to hang out with me on Pink & Posh. Before you go, can you tell us where we can find cmarchuska?
cmarchuska - My site (www.cmarchuska.com) and on moxsie.com and nimli.com as well as in the following stores: NY, NY (Montmartre stores, Blush boutique and Kaight boutique), Albany, NY (Runway 7 Ecofashions boutique and Cow Jones Industrials boutique), Beach Haven, NJ (Estray Clothing), Atlanta, GA (Peters Path Store), Chicago, IL (Pivot boutique), San Francisco, CA (Eco Citizen) and Telluride, CO (Down to Earth)
