The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced Tuesday that the Amby Baby Motion Beds have been recalled due to two reports of infant suffocation. The widely popular baby beds are marketed to parents with babies that suffer from colick or reflux, and tend to resemble hammocks. However, this design flaw can cause the infant to roll and become trapped against the fabric or mattress pad when the bed shifts from side-to-side, which in fact led to two infant deaths this past summer (ages 4-5 months old).
The CPSC says that there is only one model of the Amby hammock available and it has a label sewn right onto the bed that says “Amby-Babies Love It, Naturally.” The Amby hammock was sold at www.ambybaby.com and other Internet retailers from January 2003 through October of 2009.
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the Amby Motion Beds immediately and find a safer option for their babies to sleep. For additional information, you can contact Amby Baby US toll-free at (866) 544-9721 between 9am-5pm. Eastern time Mon-Fri or visit their website at www.ambybaby.com.
