I know I had promised to get this post up last night, but “last night” took some unexpected turns and got away from me quicker than expected. Better late than never, right? Right!

Unfortunately I don’t have many pictures from my SAG Awards party, but if you follow me on Twitter you had a chance to see some of the highlights from the night. I even managed to give a few of my guests their 15 minutes of fame, including my husband who received the Best Supporting Male award. Everyone at the party received a Swag Bag filled with Degree Ultra Clear in Red Satin, makeup samples, candy and more. Two lucky guests walked away with $100 Macy’s gift cards during a little game of SAG Awards trivia and others won prizes that included a Breakfast at Tiffany’s DVD, The Devil Wears Prada and an amazing book written by the author of The Sartorialist blog.

Aside from your typical party food which included various Hors d’oeuvres, dips and chips, we were all treated to these “award winning recipes” that were provided by Degree courtesy of thebar.com and about.com.

SAG-tail

• 1.5 oz. Stirrings of Red Sangria Cocktail Mixer (32 oz. per bottle)
• 1.5 oz. club soda
• 1 slice orange

Combine Stirrings Red Sangria Cocktail Mixer with club soda. Garnish with fresh sliced orange and serve.

Red Satin Sparkling Soda (non-alcoholic)

• 4 oz. Stirrings Pomegranate Cocktail Mixer (32 oz. per bottle)
• 2 oz. club soda
• 1 lime wedge (we used lemon)
• 1 cup ice

In a tall glass with ice, combine pomegranate mixer and club soda. Stir well and garnish with a lime.

Fashionista Hot and Spicy Pecans

• 3 tablespoons butter, melted
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
• ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
• ¼ teaspoon salt
• ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
• 2 cups pecan halves
• 1-2 tablespoons chili powder
• ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Preheat oven to 300° F. In a medium bowl, combine butter, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper, salt, and garlic powder and mix well. Stir in pecans and mix gently. Then sprinkle chili powder over all and gently toss to coat.

Spread the coated pecans on a medium baking sheet, and bake for 25-30 minutes at 300° F, stirring every 10 minutes, until pecans are toasted. Sprinkle with crushed red pepper flakes, then cool completely before serving. Makes 16 servings.

I have to admit, while I loved the food, enjoyed giving out the prizes and thought the SAG Awards were interesting, my favorite part of the night was sitting back seeing everyone having a good time. About an hour into the party it hit me that the last time we were all together like this was over three years ago before my daughter was born. Granted I’ve had two parties since then where most of my friends made an appearance, the vibe was different, being that those two parties involved either Princesses or Pin the Tail on the Donkey. So if nothing else comes from me hosting this event, hopefully I’ll have achieved two things — a realization that I do in fact need to spend more time with the girls and ensuring that those “girls” always have fresh smelling, non-staining armpits thanks to Degree Ultra Clear.

No matter how much weight I gain (or lose), the two accessories that never fail me are shoes and handbags. They compliment you on good days, make you feel better on bad days, and don’t hold it against you when you’re having an “OMG, Did I just eat three slices of pizza?” days. (That kind of sounds like the ideal husband, right?)

So when I found out from Buzz Cooperative that I was chosen to review a handbag from NYC designer, Sondra Roberts, I was super excited. I was given a choice of seven handbags to choose from, mostly brightly-hued, uber-feminine bags, which in all honestly, isn’t my thing, but then I saw it…the Reversible Bucket bag — a bag that might be just as bipolar as me! On one side, it’s purple, a soft violet color (for my girly days) and on the reverse side, it’s black (for my edgy mama days), perfect!

When the bag arrived I was pleasantly surprised as it was much bigger than I pictured it to be. I carry a heavy load, so my bag needs to be ready for the haul. The bucket bag measures 15″ x 14″ and includes an adjustable 20″ strap. The material is a heavy, canvas-like tweed that seems to be very durable and stain-resistant. The silver-tone hardware is also very sturdy and compliments both colors very well and either way you choose to wear it, there are both interior and exterior pockets, one zippered and one open pocket for easy access (perfect for your cell phone!)
